Profile
John Malone began law practice as a solo practitioner, and that entrepreneurial spirit has defined the character of his legal career. While his practice encompasses many fields, he has developed a particular focus on business, real estate, probate, and civil litigation.

He has significant trial experience in state and federal courts, representing individuals and businesses. John knows the ins and outs of trials and the most advantageous options for successful resolution outside of court. He has distinguished experience in trials and appeals. He handles federal and state matters as diverse as contract disputes, shareholder litigation, real estate litigation, complex intellectual property and employment issues, tax controversies, and civil rights defense.
On the business and transactional side of his law practice, John represents developers, buyers, sellers, and lenders in commercial real estate transactions from the initial negotiation to the final closing. John advises small and mid-sized businesses on day-to-day matters and long-term planning with an eye to maximizing their profitability. John's relationships with business owners and their key employees require that he routinely advises his clients on their estate plans, prepares wills and trusts, and aids trustees and beneficiaries with the administration of trusts and probate estates. John brings experience, knowledge, and integrity to the table in all matters undertaken.

Recent matters John has handled include representation of manufacturing and companies in restructuring and litigation; shareholder disputes; representing commercial real estate developers and investors; representing business owners in buy-sell, partnership, and operating agreements; obtaining a defense verdict in a U.S. District Court jury trial where he successfully defended a property owner accused of civil rights violations, which decision was upheld on appeal in the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals; representing the plaintiff in a successful RICO and fraud telecommunication case in both federal and state court; counseling on international contract and business matters.

In advising his clients and their businesses, John brings practical and academic experience, having served as an Assistant Professor of Business Law at Cleveland State University from 1975 to 1982.

John partners with out-of-state attorneys and law firms as local counsel in Federal and State Courts.
